Queenstown, the Southern Lakes and Fiordland
The roof of New Zealand is the area around the southern lakes with its charming
domestic centres, Wanaka and Queenstown.
Both are directly on the lake and surrounded by the main winter ski areas of New
Zealand. In this area you get beautiful views around each corner and it is one
of the world most popular spots to enjoy adrenaline activities.
Queenstown is known as the adrenaline capital of the world: Earth, water or air,
there is something to test and thrill everyone. Quieter, but equally beautiful,
the pretty lakeside resort Te Anau is the gateway to the serene landscapes of
the Fiordland National Park.
Renowned for such natural wonders as the Milford- and the Doubtful sounds, it is
the biggest National Park in New Zealand and a World Heritage Area.

Arrowtown a walk back in
time
Established in 1862, Arrowtown is set by the Arrow
River, 30 minutes drive from Queenstown. Being
recognised as one of the richest sources of alluvial
gold in the world, William Fox, a sailor, was the
first to claim the discovery of gold in the icy cold
Arrow River.
Because of this, the town was originally called
Fox's Rushes. Today Arrowtown is probably the most
well-preserved gold mining town in Otago.
Its buildings are protected and many have been
lovingly restored so that you feel as if you have
walked back in time. |
